Broadview-Thomson and the PTA love volunteers! Thank you for your interest!
Please see below for instructions on how to become a volunteer, then check out the opportunities here:

School Learning Garden:
Our garden build was a huge success!

On August 15th, over 60 volunteers from an accounting firm (RSM’s Seattle location) came and helped us build a Learning Garden in 5 hours! We had groups working on assembling the shed, building raised planter boxes and benches, shoveling compost, picking up litter—even weeding the flowerbed in front of the school! BT students painted colorful signage that adds a lot of charm to the space.

One section is our ‘Sensory Garden’ (to touch, smell, listen and look) with the majority of the space being used to get kids growing food. With PTA and parent support, it is our hope that throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to plant, harvest and hopefully taste what they grow!

Food Program Volunteers - We really need a few more volunteers to support this important program!
You do NOT need to be an approved volunteer for this.

The Weekend Food Program is starting again, with support from the Ballard Food Bank. Each student who signs up receives a bag of non-perishable food every Friday. There are no income limits, and more than one student per family can sign up. Last year, this program served 144 students and provided over 5,000 bags of food!

To keep this vital program running, we need volunteers. Each shift takes less than 2 hours, and you can choose dates that fit your schedule. We especially need volunteers who can distribute food to student lockers during the school day on Fridays.

Volunteering On Campus:

Examples: Monitoring lunch and recess, volunteering in the classroom, chaperoning field trips, helping with the Art Walk or the Community Cultural Night

Steps to volunteer:

  1. Obtain approval from Seattle Public Schools.  Follow these instructions. (Category A is the most common type of volunteer role people apply for.)

  2. Once your SPS application gets approved (i.e. the Volunteer Portal says “You are eligible to volunteer with Seattle Public Schools”), please email our Broadview Volunteer Liaison, Cathy Donohue, at cldonohue@seattleschools.org to confirm that you have Broadview Thomson-level approval.
NOTE: This process takes 2-3 weeks to complete before you are approved to volunteer. Login to your account on the Volunteer Portal after two weeks to check your status before contacting the school to confirm you are ready to volunteer at Broadview-Thomson.

  3. Once you receive Broadview-level approval, you can sign-up via the links at the top of this page for on-campus opportunities.
